住在6樓的受災戶鍾子洋（音譯）當時與3歲的孫子在家，他說：「我以為是地震，我聽到很大的聲響，也感受到大震動，當我打開門，我看到樓梯不見了。」

 

一樓黃姓住戶表示，四樓正在施工做翻新工程，「這種老屋經不起這樣弄。」但調查單位稱翻新工程可能是原因之一，但目前仍無法確定。

土生中國問題評論專家林和立，在1988年末香港 還是殖民地的時候，進入本地歷史最悠久報章《南華早報》（South China Morning Post）任中國新聞副編輯兼駐京記者，當時他的上司是中國版編輯David Chen，老闆是國際傳媒大亨梅鐸（Rupert Murdoch）。
1993 年《南早》易手，由在中國有巨大投資的馬來西亞商人郭鶴年購入。最終，2015年末郭鶴年旗下嘉里集團把《南早》賣盤給內地資本阿里巴巴集團，1903年 在香港創立的《南早》染紅。回頭看來，殖民地終章是香港回歸，主權的改變，傳媒老闆的改變，一個地方、一份報章、一個記者的命運還會不變？

梅鐸治下　編採高度自主

正式落入中國資本以前，林和立曾經在《南早》工作11年，那是他一段非常快樂的新聞工作日子，雖然他眼中《南早》的待遇不算十分優厚，薪酬水平可以接受，每年加薪幅度也不高。
林 和立跟梅鐸接觸不多，試過與編輯及行政高層陪老闆到深圳參觀一些投資項目。「好多曾經主政的編輯都說他好刻薄，薪酬及升職都抓得好緊。但梅鐸對意識形態方 面給編輯自由度相當高，在商言商，基本上堅持西方價值觀、反共，他的集團主政《南早》時，對編輯是沒有甚麼限制的。」能把他這類擁有高學歷與資歷的新聞工 作者留下來，除了世紀難得遇上的中國變革，還有新聞工作的重要條件：free hand（自主）。

林和立1974年畢業於香港大學比較文學系，副 修政治。在美國明尼蘇達大學完成哲學碩士後，1978年至1981年加入《Reader's Digest》（讀者文摘），主要採寫軟性新聞。八十年代初，他加入英文《亞洲周刊》（Asiaweek），86年被派任駐京記者。兩年後已經開始寫第一 本關於中國權力鬥爭的政治書籍《The Era of Zhao Ziyang: Power Struggle in China,1986-88》。書首鳴謝篇章的第一句，描述當時八方匯聚北京的精采氛圍，聯想上世紀二十年代巴黎流動的餐宴，「What an exciting time! A veritable moveable feast!」
在獨有的政治環境裏，北京的外國記者會還未被中國外交 部承認，林和立跟中外同行與「敵國」，東方與西方的外交官，聚在一起放料收料，真料假料八卦料，寫了「傷害中國人民感情」的報道被召見依然「冇有怕」。那 時候駐京記者與外交官的電話號碼都有相同記認，都以532開首。林和立對記者說，這些電話會受到監聽，所以只會在公眾電話講重要事情。
記者在一個 寒冷的晚上，於港大圖書館一個特別的房間翻看《南早》的微型菲林，小腿、腳板都冰了，看着1989年六四前林和立跟同事多日的頭條，包括〈Deng Calls Zhao a traitor〉、〈Peng Zhen challenges Deng rule〉、〈Deng moves to rid party of reformers〉、〈Gang of Seven purged〉，這七個人包括趙紫陽、溫家寶、鮑彤等。寒夜重溫當年整個社會的熱心情，那一段離不開新聞報道的日子，林和立是其中一位留守北京的香港記 者。最後，他與同事一起報道趙紫陽被軟禁，並於六月五日撤退回港。然後，中國進入另一階段，香港人心也進入另一階段。
香港社會，因為有人努力報道事實，有人就習慣了要看事實。六四淌血淌淚的現實與情感，在重要的價值上，香港人曾經相濡以沫。「之後，鄧小平要把23條加進《基本法》，你去問李柱銘就知道。」林和立說。

來 自香港的中國新聞記者，能夠寫中國真相的時候，也是對中國充滿希望的時候。92年鄧小平南巡以後，江澤民與朱鎔基掌權，決定加入世界貿易組織。當時國內反 對力量很大，林和立說，99年朱鎔基訪美與克林頓會談，大量「放水」，答應陸續放寬美國汽車、銀行及保險業以及荷李活電影進入中國巿場，傳聞回國後被罵為 賣國賊。中國內部權鬥的情節，高潮迭起。作為香港具影響力英文報章，取得中國權威消息作分析及批判性報道，迥異國內《China Daily》依從黨指示，不作敏感報道，那種滿足感可以想像。
《南早》當時的中國新聞，某程度成了西方了解中國實情的重要窗口。「現在說來好像我 在吹牛。可能一般香港讀者主要關心本地港聞，但我們中國新聞有重要的讀者，包括西方的記者、學者、外資大企業、外交界及學術界。」林和立說他當時的人脈包 括江澤民身邊的智囊、學者及經濟專家。

中國改革了經濟，政治卻在反覆變動，甚至走回頭路。他說江澤民即使很保守，但卻不致會像習近平早前把法國女 記者驅逐出境。回歸前後，約1995年至1999年，時任《南早》總編輯是畢業於牛津大學的Jonathan Fenby，來港前任《觀察報》總編，具歷史學術修養，十多本著作包括《戴高樂傳》、《Tiger Head Snake Tails》。林和立形容與Fenby關係密切而友好，上司完全放手讓他主理中國版。

「Free hand很大，當時我每天處理兩版，弄好菜單、組稿，有時自己寫一版（約二千字），寫稿的速度比現在快很多，現在感覺真的是老了。」
一 般認為殖民地時代的《南早》屬港英喉舌，以官商建制利益為中心。1984年任職《南早》至2009年離職的前資深編輯楊健興（Chris Yeung）說，那年代的同事來自五湖四海，這些包括英國、美國、澳洲及印度等地的資深新聞從業員，都擁抱民主自由人權法治普世核心價值，當時《南早》新 聞及文章吸引讀者，是因為既有本地看法，也結合外國視野角度，達至真正中西大融合，港督、商界老闆及公務員都屬讀者群。他入職時，澳洲總編輯Robin Hutcheon已在《南早》工作近三十年，深愛香港，寫作及處理新聞的能力都很強，是他很敬重的上司。
曾任職《南早》的立法會議員劉慧卿說，殖民政府要掌控民情，重點不在英文報章而在於本地大眾傳媒，包括無綫電視台。聽說，有一段日子，已故前港督麥理浩每周也會跟當時的《明報》老闆查良鏞吃午餐。

糖王收購　立場漸進轉變

回歸前過渡期，重心轉移，《南早》要發展跟新華社香港分社的關係，開始倚重本地華人記者。路線也從《中英聯合聲明》簽署前的親英，變成回歸後親中。林和立 回憶「糖王」郭鶴年收購《南早》後，報紙立場的轉變，是漸進的。「畢竟郭老是一個愛國華僑，年紀老了，想回祖國落葉歸根。他本人在中國投資好大，與中國政 治局級高官有個人關係、個人感情，雖然頭幾年對編輯自主沒有限制，但九七年後，逐漸配合北京宣傳口徑，九七回歸報道上，主要強調祖國統一對中國人是榮耀， 回歸是中國的光彩，對中國好有意義，要非常正面報道，但好少提到當時香港人對中共統治有憂慮。直至我2000年離開《南早》，他對我負責的中國報道有些不 滿，包括對我本人。」

2000年6月28日林和立在逢周三刊出的專欄寫了一篇名為〈Marshalling the SAR'S tycoon〉的評論文章，開首就點出中央間接干預香港事務，回歸三年，兩制平衡一國的精神並未體現。「Overt Interference? Apparently not. Indirect, subtle interference? Evidently so.」文章提到中央與30名香港富豪見面，顯示北京着意在香港政制發展有最終話事權。部份商界由倒董變為聽從北京游說，聯合一致支持董建華連任特首。當 中提到存在商業利益，並認為北京將會繼續以家長管治方式，確保由愛國及受信任的政治人物管治香港，而延續富豪們的政治影響力，符合北京利益，當時的李澤楷 亦被點為明日之星。
翌日，時已離任《南早》主席的老闆郭鶴年，也是上述訪京富豪之一，寫信到《南早》讀者版反駁文章完全誇張及揑造，把富豪看成笨蛋白癡，靠做中央走狗生存等等。林和立在跟着的一天，繼續發文堅持立場。

「那篇關於香港首富評論觸動了他甚麼？」記者問。
「郭鶴年對於我所寫的不滿意，不是局限於某一兩篇文章，他覺得我對北京有偏見，報憂不報喜，所以他通過一些中間人向我暗示，不要繼續堅持批評中國的態度及原則，應多些配合北京新形勢。」
半年後，郭鶴年透過時任總編輯Robert Keatley向林和立傳達要把他調到評論版處理編務，當時他的職位是Associate Editor, China（助理總編輯），「我當然不接受，於是辭職。」

收歸馬雲　編輯自主成疑

林和立是有份量的新聞工作者如何迫於離職的例子。劉慧卿當時寫公開信對他辭職表示並不意外但卻很憂慮，擔心批評權貴的記者會被投閒置散，損害新聞言論自由。不奇怪是因為明白，但不等於可以習慣。

「《南早》的改變，是不是香港新聞及言論自由一個縮影，自由在縮窄？」
「的 確是。我初入去，梅鐸控制，他在國際出版界、新聞界是個爭議性很高的人，但卻保持高度編輯自主勢態。而郭鶴年因為他是一個愛國商人，投資非常大，與北京關 係密切，逐漸把中國報道收緊。阿里巴巴收購完成不久，難下結論，但好多觀察家認為，阿里巴巴與北京黨政高層非常密切，馬雲配合北京政策，逐漸鼓勵中資企業 收購傳媒，達到高一層的控制，我認識好多現於《南早》工作的員工，對馬雲收購後能否保持編輯自主，抱很大疑問。」他說馬雲是中國模式的獲益者，一定擁護中 國模式、中國價值觀，有理由擔憂，《南早》收購後，編輯方向一定更加接近北京。
七十、八十年代，本地大學畢業生進入精英報章《南早》工作有一份優越感。林和立說，二千年後它的路線逐漸轉變，數度更換高層，2012年吉林省政協王向偉出任總編輯五個月後，發生淡化報道李旺陽事件，「現在聘請不少有國內背景，曾在海外留學、英語優良的人入職。」

《南 早》曾是世界了解香港的重要媒介，BBC國際新聞，現在依然每天引述它介紹香港情況。以往的港英窗口，現在變了中國窗口。重要分別在於以往港英的價值觀基 本上接近香港人，但北京現在對民主自由人權的打壓及操控，令港人抗拒。Chris Yeung就是因為它在民主自由法治等重要立場由鮮明變得日漸模糊，帶點意興闌珊地離開。他憂慮這種轉變，會削弱國際社會掌握香港情況。
「《南早》變『紅早』，你曾在那裏工作，感受如何？」記者問林和立。
「若 《南早》繼續染紅變了北京半官方喉舌是非常可惜，因為它不僅是香港歷史最長的報紙，而且它有資源及能力扮演亞太區重要傳媒，一個提供資訊、重要批判性報道 的平台。目前亞太地區正缺乏一份有實力、有口碑、有誠信的傳媒，《南早》本來有財力及歷史背景扮演亞太區《紐約時報》的角色，但結果做不到，我作為在《南 早》工作超過十年的前僱員，覺得好可惜。」

1974港大畢業之時，林和立已經明白，滿腹小說，跟能寫小說是兩回事。在美國修讀哲學碩士研究比較 Fyodor Dostoyevsky和Andre Gide小說風格，又發現自己不安於象牙塔學術生活。結果，他當了精英階層英文報章裏出色的中國新聞記者編輯，香港回歸中國三年，卻要轉到CNN當中國新 聞顧問，並在它的中文網撰寫中國評論文章。2002年在武漢大學取得經濟學博士不久，林和立到日本在大學教書兩年，約2007年開始在香港中文大學任客座 教授。人生走了一圈，最終還是回歸學術與寫作的初心。

「定性暴亂為23條鋪路」

他記得1973年跟隨港大學生團第一次到北京訪問，團員包括蔡素玉。當時行走在長安大街的都是單車，有同學還天真地想要求會見周恩來。他這一輩人，對中國曾抱很大希望。
四 十多年後，變了中國問題評論專家，說起李波事件就意識香港出現白色恐怖，談到旺角騷亂被梁振英政府定性為暴亂，就有不祥之兆。他認為外交部、張曉明及饒戈 平相繼定性旺角騷亂跟分離主義、恐怖主義及本土主義加上分離主義傾向有關，完全是一個局，製造藉口發動國家機器粉碎暴亂，跟着在港為23條立法。

1989年《人民日報》4.26社論定性學生運動為暴亂後，他所得消息，被收買的流氓混進學生運動「打砸搶燒」，六四前有軍人燒焦了的屍體被吊起來，他絕不相信是學生所為。
無論怎樣，每一個人按自己的經歷，心裏都有屬於自己的一個香港。
「你有沒有憂慮，會不會繼續講你想講的，有需要時繼續批評中國政府？」
「我本人當然有憂慮，但我已經62歲，我沒有受到直接威脅，但我感覺香港已經有些白色恐怖發生（記者：在哪裏發生？）這些憂慮，好多時理性或非理性的都有，（在傳媒界裏？）傳媒界甚至學術圈子裏都有一些白色恐怖的氣氛，有些人自律，或是有些人找後路移民國外。」
「你會噤若寒蟬？」
「我是研究中國政治，對於批判中共政權倒行逆施，他們對人權法治出版自由打壓，我是會繼續批評，這是一個知識分子的天職。」林和立現在於香港中文大學歷史系及中國研究所裏教授兩課，包括「當代中國」以及「中國政治及經濟改革」。
記者第一趟跟中國問題專家見面，他約在怡東酒店。初接觸，感覺他的冷思維個性，會問能否一小時完成個人專訪，第二次在電話交談後，就認為自己已經把能說的都說清了。最終發現，他原來很會寫英詩，「波斯灣戰爭以前，我送很多詩給朋友。」他寫關於宗教的詩，也寫情詩。
林 和立是美國智庫詹姆斯城基金會（Jamestown Foundation）資深研究員。進入《南早》前後，他一直努力以英文寫作不同領導人治下的中國問題書籍，包括《China After Deng Xiaoping》，還有關於江澤民、胡錦濤時代，以及至去年出版關於習近平的著作《Chinese Politics in the Era of Xi Jinping: Renaissance, Reform, or Retrogression》，目前仍然在努力寫關於中國公民社會新作，如他所說，「某程度，這滿足了我當初的寫作慾望。」少年時代夢想創作，但《南早》 成就了他一個中國問題專家。
再看楊健興約三個月前獨自建立的英文新聞網站Voice of Hong Kong（vohk.hk），百味紛陳。他曾經是《南早》的Editor-at-large，這職位據說前無古人的。現在一個人運作網站，延續三十多年來 熱愛的英文政治新聞評論。沒有廣告，沒有收入。網頁上方有細字邀請捐款及投稿。

「有沒有孤單的感覺？」記者問。
「新聞本身已經好熱鬧，留意、思考，然後寫出來，keep着寫，有些問題寫了二十年、三十年仍然在寫，但每一次感覺都是新的，就如新界東選舉，兩三星期前還沒想到有這樣的發展，我仍然對新聞着迷。」
有一個學生時代，看《南早》學英文，有一個新聞時代，看《南早》留意重要官商消息。楊健興看當前核心價值，它不再是精英必看了。
一份報章，跟一個電視台一樣，已經隨着香港歷史改變。
一篇報道、一本書、一個網站，都是一扇互通的窗口，窗內的人表達，窗外的人觀看，誰都不可以剝奪誰的自由，這樣的香港，還會變嗎？

周浩鼎一直避答是否撐梁振英連任問題，與其說是怕得罪梁振英， 不如說是怕得罪幕後操盤的中聯辦。中紀委年初向港澳辦派駐紀檢組，同時兼管港澳兩個中聯辦，無論肅貪還是追究港澳工作失誤的政治責任，恐怕都令張曉明、梁 振英難以安寢。從政改方案被否決，到本土派在區議會選舉中大煥異彩，如果加上周浩鼎落敗，張、梁能否再逃過北京問責？
其二，對大年初一的旺角衝突 事件，梁振英說是暴亂，張曉明說是少數激進分離勢力、帶有恐怖傾向的暴亂。周浩鼎如果只是跟隨梁振英、張曉明的口風倒也罷了，但他還要攻擊義助被捕者的楊 岳橋，更有一班梁粉、中共外圍組織持續向法官施壓，令新東補選的勝敗也關乎能否守住香港法治。
